North Shore Section Maintenance
Han Taylor will be our Trail Maintenance Supervisor on the North Shore section of the trail again this year. Han has scheduled several maintenance work projects for May and early June:
Sunday, May 9th, 9:00: Haul in materials 0.7 miles and replace two elevated boardwalks west of the Split Rock River Loop. Meet at the Split Rock River Wayside Hwy 61 milepost 43.5.
May 22nd, 9:00: Raise the existing boardwalk on Chapins Creek Pond. Meet at the Split Rock River Wayside, Hwy 61 milepost 43.5, to carpool.
May 28th, 29th, 30th, 9:00 each morning: Replace Dyers Creek Bridge with 36’ A-frame bridge together with a high school engineering class! Haul in materials 0.8 miles and re-assemble the bridge onsite from pre-measured and pre-drilled materials. Bring a 5/8” or 9/16” rachet or wrench if you have one. Sign up for one or all days. Meet at the Cook Co Rd 1 (Cramer Rd) trailhead parking lot. At Hwy 61 milepost 78.8, turn left on Cook Co Rd 1 (Cramer Rd) and go 3.6 miles to parking lot on right. New Line
June 5th, National Trails Day: Haul in materials 0.8 miles and replace beaver-damaged boardwalk on Sundling Pond, west of Grand Marias. Meet at Bally Creek Road Trailhead. At Hwy 61 milepost 101.7, turn left (north) on Cook Co Rd 7 and go 4.3 miles. Turn left on Cook Co Rd 48 and go 0.3 miles to “T” intersection. Turn left on Forest Road 158 (Bally Creek Rd) and go 1.0 miles to trailhead parking lot on left.
June 12th, 9:00: Haul in materials 2.5 miles and replace elevated boardwalk on section from Finland Rec Center to Sonju Lake Road. Meet at the Finland Rec Center trailhead parking lot. At Hwy 61 milepost 59.3, turn left on Hwy 1 and go 6.0 miles to Lake Co Rd 7. Turn right and go 1.3 miles to parking lot past the ball field at Finland Rec Center area on right.
Please come dressed for outdoor work. SHTA can provide gloves and safety glasses. Bring rubber boots or hip waders if you have them. Bring beverages, lunch, and insect repellant.
